What red wine is considered the sweetest? And how can I obtain a bottle. I live in Maryland close to Washington DC.

Hi GJ, and welcome to the Wine Board. The easy answer is Port. It is both a dessert and a fortified wine though, so may not be what you are looking for. The easiest table wine to wine is Reunite Lambrusco. If you can't find it, they don't sell wine.

If you don't mind travelling a little, you can find some very nice sweet red wine just north of you. Nissley Winery produces a complete line of red and white wines from dry to sweet. They have a tasting room in their winery in Bainbridge, PA, and at malls in Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Camp Hill.

The advantage of going to a tasting room like Nissley's is that you can taste the whole spectrum of wines from dry to very sweet, to determine exactly what you like. Somtimes folks don't know exactly what they mean by "sweet" in wines. I have heard people rave about a sweet wine they have had that was bone dry. The wine was loaded with fresh fruit flavor that gave an illusion of sweetness.
