NEED HELP QUICK

I have a friend who is doing me a HUGE favor and he loves his wine especially deep reds.
Does anybody have suggestions for brands in
the $150 range? Thanks for the help

Presumably you want to give him something he can drink in the near future. As a rule of thumb, the more you pay the longer you have to wait to drink it. Recommend you give a case of Crozes Hermitage. Paul Jaboulet Aine, "Les Jalets" and M. Chapoutier, "Petite Ruche" are two that come to mind.

Or you can make him one of the happiest people on earth and give him a bottle Joseph Phelps 1997 " Insignia " YUM-MMM-MY!! winoweenie

Or a bottle of either A. Salon 1985 Les Mesnil Brut or Gosset Cuvee Celebris 1990, two of the best Champagnes out there in general distribution.

My curiosity got the best of me so let me first apologize to the board before I ask this question. I don't drink or know a lot of or about Champagne.....Roberto, what's wrong with Moet?

Get any of the First Growths...Just ask your local wine store to reccomend one. Personnal favorites: Chateau Cheval-Blanc and Chateau Latour

Drew, go to the Champagne Forum and read some of Roberto's comments about the BIG HOUSES.

Then you'll get the jist about his criticism of Moet.

I tend to agree with him. However I also like a Champagne from one of the big houses: Perrier-Jouet Fleur De Champagne is one of my favorites. It is much, much better than anything I've tasted from Moet, including the Dom.

Another exception is KRUG - but I've not popped mine open yet to sample it - so I know them only by reputation.

Roberto and Guys, Are any of you reading the posts or just jumping in and giving advice helter-skelter? " He loves his wines, especially deep reds " are Nickolas` parameters. Don`t recall in all my tasting history of a champagne that possessed a " deep Red " quality. Nick, go with the Insignia, one of the greatest wines on the market that he can drink now or age 15 years if he so desires. And besides, if he knows Deep Reds, he`ll understand the quality of your gift. winoweenie

Had a bottle of "Les Jalets" last night with fillet steak and bacon rasher. A truely "deep red" that will be remembered twelve times if you get him a case.
