I am seeking some information on a good choice of California wine(s) for a close
friend of mine who happens to know much more
about wine than I. She also happens to live
near the Alsace-Lorraine region of France.
Any suggestions ? It would be very much
appreciated.

One bit of advice -- do not give her any US renditions of Gewurztraminer or Pinot Gris. They just do not compete with the Alsatian versions IMNSHO. Give her something truly unique (or almost so) to the US -- Red Zinfandel.
