When you call a wine "big," are you saying that it has a high alcohol content?

joey, more likely "big" bold flavors and/or full body. The "full body" part can translate to a wine that feels heavier in the mouth. High alcohol wines are often described as "hot."

Reds or whites could be described as "big" or "full bodied", but you will more often see the description "big" with reference to reds. Big, as opposed to subtle, is considered more desireable by many American wine drinkers...fits the national personality [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/wink.gif[/img]
