I have a question for winemakers and drinkers. Can you give me some recomendations for good producers of DRy Seyval & any methods of winemaking that you use to create a wonderful Seyval wine. Also, what are your thoughts on the quality of sparkling wines made from French-Hybrids in the Mid-West and East? I feel with the high acids and sharp fruit they could potentially produce some of the best sparkling wine. Any suggestions or nots on the best varieties for this.( Cayuga, Seyval, Vidal, etc..)
Thanks for your input,
Cheers,
Mike

Michael, you may get more response under the "Home Winemaking" part of the board.

AFA dry Seyval Blanc, I have only tried a couple that I found pleasant. Stone Hill Winery in Missouri consistently makes a nice one. Botham Vineyards in Wisconsin turned out a very nice 1996 - it took away a gold medal at the New World International Wine Competition.

Michael,

If you post on the New York board you might get lots of suggestions about Seyval in the East.

Hunt Country Vineyards, Heron Hill, Wagner, all in the Finger Lakes, make good Seyval, as does Bully Hill (the Reserve). Bully Hill makes a sparkling Seyval Brut.
