Riesling Question

First, please understand that I know zip about wine, but thought I would post here since I am seeking an answer to a question I have about Rieslings --- actually a particular white wine. I have a 1997 Riesling ---a Hallgartener Junger by Pieroth. Is it too late to enjoy now? And incidentally, would I have enojoed it in 1998? ;> ) Is Piertoh considered a "good" label? Thanks! Daren

Hi Daren, and welcome to the Wine Board. Am not familar with that particular wine, but a well made, properly stored Riesling will age that long and can be enjoyed. I wouldn't give it too much longer. I like to age good Rieslings four or five years, but they (particulaly sweeter ones) can age further.

Welcome to the board, Daren. Ferdinand Pieroth GmbH is a company in Germany that markets directly to consumers via company "consultants" in various locations. I look on them as a broker, although their Website indicates they do have a winery. I haven't bought any of their wines since the late 1970's, when I grew tired of their local salesman calling constantly with special good deals on pure junk (or "plonk", as we call it here). Suggest you consume that bottle sooner rather than later. Serve it moderately chilled (half an hour in the fridge) but not ice cold, with mildly seasoned chicken or pork.
