May I ask another question?

I have drank quite a few bottles of wine over the past several months. I have found that I really enjoy wines that are stronger such as the cabs. I have never, however, tried a truly fine wine. I would like to try something that's considered fine, and aged a bit. I think the oldest thing I've had is a 1998 or so. I would like to try a fine Bordeaux or something like that. Does anyone have any suggestions of a fine Bordeaux that I could try? And I am willing to shell out a few bucks if I have to. Thanks!

Find a 1990 Pichon Baron or La Dame du Montrose. Classic Bordeaux, tasty, approachable now, and won't bankrupt you.

89, 86, 82. Go back farther than that and the expense gets crazy and the wines are a crap shoot IMO.

Here are some names for you: Haut Brion, Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Mouton, Lynch Bages. What would be your choice of these? I'm sure they're all very good.

I found a bottle of 1990 Montrose for $275. Is that good?

It is my personal opinion that you can get a wonderful bottle of any wine in the world for $50 or less. It is also my opinion that spending more than $50 (as of the Year of the Lord 2002)for a bottle of wine is an excess.

Innkeeper, what would be some of your suggestions if I may ask? BTW, I agree with what you were saying. I just figured that if you wanted to taste some of the world's finest wines, you'd have to pay alot to do so. In fact, I just ran across a bottle of 1900 something or another, I can't remember, but it was selling for $6,100. Now, that seems to be quite excessive.
