Hi all...
I am trying to find the name of a sparkling burgundy that I used at my wedding. Unfortunately, the supplier I used no longer carries it or can remember the name...Anyway, all I can remember was that it was around the $8-$10 range and had a black label....any help would be great, I am trying to find it for New Year's Eve...

If you don't mind spending a little more for the Millenium that is much, much better, try Hardy's Shiraz, Australian Sparkling Wine. You should be able to find it for around $17 at a discounter.

I think I know the product you're talking about if it's French...but I can't think of the name for the life of me. I want to say Red Cap or something like that.

I did just taste a dandy Ukrainian import called Krimskoye that lists for $12 and comes in a white (sort of like German Sekt)and a red made from Cabernet and some local grape I don't know. Plum and boysenberry fruit flavors...a little sweetness...very tasty. Bring on the duck in pomegranate sauce.

The last wines I remember named Sparkling Burgundy were New York State bottlings by Taylor (see elsewhere on the forum) and Great Western. There may have been a couple in California too; suspects Gallo and Italian Swiss Colony. Have not seen it since Cold Duck came along, and that was a, er, while ago.

The Taylor Winery is gone; its brand name is owned by a larger operation. I don't know if they produce sparkling "burgundy" anymore under the Taylor name, and they shouldn't anyway.

I am kinda skeptical because it is really cheap ($3/bottle) but far be it for me to be a wine snob! My family makes their own wines in the traditions passed down by our moonshining ancestors! This is personal opinion, mind you, but I believe that one gets what one pays for; for $3 what could you possibly expect in a sparkling wine? In J. Roget, you get it, complete with bubbles the size of cannon balls, which is hardly a good sign.

Aria...I suspect what you like is fruity, slightly sweet red wine, so any of the suggestion above would be appropriate.

You might also like Riunite Lambrusco...it's not really sparkling, but it has a tingle of carbonation.

I believe I just purchased what you are looking for Taylor New York State Cold Duck (a sparkling burgundy wine under a black label) Purchased recently in a wine store in Hot Springs, Arkansas for prox. $8.00
Have not seen it in "years" but it sure brought back memories! <grin>

well, I tried the J. Roget....I got what I paid for...YECH! oh well, experimentation and all that...
thanks for the reccommendation on the Riunite, though. When searching for the Lambrusco, I spied the Royal Raspberry and gave that a shot first....most yummy....I will go back for the lambrusco next time...

Alright! Let me try one more time. Contact my friend John Brewer at Wildwood Cellars in Mulvane, KS who specializes in Elderberry wines...medal winners every year and not very expensive.

They have the sweetness you like in several different levels (Elderberries are reputed to be very healthy in folk medicine by the way), so ask him to send you an assortment...check the prices but I remember them being very affordable.

The Wildwood Elderberry wines were line priced (even the Spiced Elderberry) at $9 last time I checked.
