Need help. I have a huge event coming up and I am thinking of serving the Bogle 2003 Chardonnay and Petite Syrah. Found them for 6.99 per bottle. Can anyone give some opinions on these two? Just a note, I don't really have any real wine officionados on the guest list, maybe 1% of 200. What do folks think of Kenwood Vintage Red?

Thanks everyone.

Hi Andre and welcome to the board. The Bogles have consistantly been among the top Price/Quality leaders with many members of the board including moi. Go for it. WW

Although we're fond of the Petite Sirah, in may not be up the ally of even the 1%. For a crowd, I would go with their Merlot. The Kenwood would work too, but don't know if you can get it for the same price.

Bogle wines are excellent QPR at their peice of $10.99 here. Getting them for $6.99 is a steal.

Harris Teeter in our area routinely "discounts" their Bogle '03 to $8.99 a bottle, so the price you are getting is outstanding! I agree with the other poster (name eludes me now, I apologize) who suggested merlot for a larger event.

I wouldn't be concerned either about the presence of any "aficionados" at your gathering; you are serving so many people that the ones with refined/educated sensibilities realize the scale of your event and know the limitations of cost.

My mother always said it was more important to have plenty of toilet paper and soap than an "aristocratic" wine when entertaining on that scale. Good Luck and Warm Smiles!

I love the Bogle Petite Syrah. Can't beat it at $8 or less. I don't think the taste is too much for most wine novices.. It's not overpowering, spicy (like some Shiraz) or too tannic at all.
