Clueless on wines, need help!

Hi, my name is Amanda, I am 19, nd I hope someone can help me. I have been working at a restaurant for over a year as a hostess and want to start serving. My boss refuses to let me do so until I learn anout our wines. I have no clue about them, and he is not willing to help. I was wondering if there was anyone that was willing to give me a brief description of the following red wines: Lorane Valley "Oregon" (Pinot Noir), Sonoma Creek (Pinot Noir), Clos Du Bois "Sonoma" (Merlot), Rutherford Hill (Merlot), and Markham "Napa" (Merlot). Amanda, your boss is a jerk if he refuses to help a staff member learn about wine.

More importantly, if you want to learn about wine you will need to grab a book or two, and maybe join a class or tasting group, but you are under the legal age so that could be a problem.

Dare I say it, look for the Wine For Dummies series of books--and then look for that new job.

I can tell you a bit about the Lorane Valley Pinot. I have actually visited the winery. It is produced by the King Estate Winery in the Willamette Valley near Eugene Oregon. It is their less expensive table wine, under a second label. It is not oaked. It was fermented in steel and then bottled. It isn't the best example of an Oregon Pinot Noir, but a middle of the road one that is decently inexpensive.
