Hello,

I am very much a wine novice. I like to share a bottle of red wine with friend every once and a while. My girlfriend will drink it from time to time, but for some reason she is overwhelmed by the taste of alcohal. We have tried many kinds of wine from cheap to moderately priced. She usually does not like the taste of alcohal in general.

Can anyone suggest a wine (whether it be red or not) that she might like? One that perhaps would give her some other taste besides the alcohal.

Thank you.

Hi Xander, and welcome to the Wine Board. Try a German Riesling. They run as low as 7% alcohol. Check label before buying. American Riesling runs higher.

Having said all that, I'm not sure about her not liking the "taste" of alcohol in wine. I would find that hard to describe. One can "feel" the alcohol in wine as well as the effects of alcohol. The feel is a hot one that comes when alcohol levels creep upwards from 14%. This used to be most unusual, but has recently become very common, particularly in big reds. Again, you can always check the alcohol level on the bottle.

You might also try a Moscato d'Asti. It's a slightly fizzy, slightly sweet white wine from Italy. It has an alcohol content of between 5% to 7%.

I would go with both suggestions. Both are low in alcohol, tastey and chick friendly.

Let's see!
To be specific, one that always seems to impress at a mere $6 is San Matteo Frascati.
It's fits for sure for summer quaffing!

We have a winery up here called "Chicks do Wine." Or something similar. I'll dig up the article on it.
