Hey - this is a question I've been pondering for awhile. Is the wrapper around the cork supposed to be peeled off before removing the cork, or do you remove the cork while the wrapper is still sealed? I've done it both ways. Just wondering.

Hi TH and happy Turkey. The best and most attractive way is to get a foil cutter which leaves the foil intact and cuts it cleanly so you don't have to penetrate it to get at the cork. WW

Traditionally the foil is cut just below the lip at the top of the neck. The reason for this is that a long time ago the foils were actually lead lined and you wanted to keep the lead out of the wine.

Now - it really doesn't matter. I generally cut it below the lip and take the whole cap off - then I remove the cork.

I'm a perfectionist and traditionalist.
