I am attending a dinner party tomorrow evening, when asked what her preference was for the wine the hostess merely suggested a cabernet sauvignon. I have purchased a bottle of Kendall-Jackson 1997 Vintner's Reserve but I really don't know if this is considered a good wine or not? Opinions? If not, any suggestions for a better wine?

Welcome, MelissaJ. I found the Kendall J. a bit lean and not for me. Are you to supply the wine for the dinner or just one bottle for the host? Also, what's the menu? Members on this board can respond with better recommendations if they know what's being served.

What I know of the menu is this:

Tapenade (garlicky olive paste) on bagel toasts

Rigatoni with Gorgonzola, Broccoli, and Tomatoes

Tossed Green Salad

Italian Bread

Any other additions will be strictly vegetarian as well...

The wine is intended to be consumed with the meal.

If the wine is for the host, and based on her suggestion and her menu, would go ahead and bring the K-J for her. You should find out which in advance, and time is getting short. If it is for the dinner, would bring some nice Barbera d'Asti.

Melissa J , welcome to the board. If the wine is for the meal, I`d have to suggest a nice , soft, zinfandel like the Cline 1998 or 1999 Calif discussed in length under the Zin thread. Hope the party`s a success. winoweenie
