I've recently come across 2 bottle of Christian Brothers Merlot, vintage 1986. Before I open them, I have two questions:

First, is there any value to them whatsoever (or will there be since the vinyard no longer exists)?

Second, is it worth trying the wine at all, or am I taking my life into my own hands?

Welcome bogeyman. Not likely endangering your life. However, speaking of "taking... in hands," you might take the merlot in one hand & good olive oil in the other & pour a bit over a salad for a nice oil & vin. dressing

Well, they may not be vinegar, but I really doubt they'd still be drinkable. As for value - nil.
