Oregon Wines

Oregon's reputation has been built primarily with pinot noir and pinot gris as the primary red and white. Many producers do very well with other grapes including cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, and syrah on the red side, and chardonnay, semillon, riesling, gwurztraminer, and pinot blanc on the white side. Many great blends are also produced. If I lived where you do, would probably drink little else than Oregon Wine.

You might pick up a copy of Wine Press Northwest, and get a subscription to it. It is an excellent magazine covering the region, and comes out four times a year.

Oregonia, Take the 20 minute drive through beautiful Eugene and go to King Estate Winery. They are a few minutes out of town. Their main label, King Estate, is alright. But, for a real inexpensive treat try their Lorane Valley Label (their second label). They offer free tastings in their tasting room. We have the advantage of living in a wine growing region (Willamette Valley). I'll take one of my days off and just hit 5 or 6 wineries to see what is going on. Oregon wine country is pretty to drive through and you'll never know what you'll find or fall in love with.
