Hi Bluebird, and welcome to the Wine Board. The easiest way to start with red wine is with Beaujolais Nouveau which is available now. One bottle at a glass a day will last you three or four days. Try to transfer it to smaller, sealable containers each day with little or no airspace. Air kills wine fast.

After this month, move up to regular Beaujolais, as the Nouveau has a very short lifespan. After that you may be interested in some other wines, so come back for more advice.

You may wish to go to a local wineshop and tell them what your doing. Tell them you want some inexpensive everyday drinking red wines and that you've never consumed red wines so you want something that is friendly and approachable now.

A couple suggestions that are cheap include
Georges Duboeuf or Louis Jadot (makers) Morgon, Moulin a vent, Fleurie, Beaujolais-villages (types)

Pauls Jaboulet Aine (maker) Paralle 45 Cotes Du Rhone

Any current vintage will work on these. They are all around 10 bucks and are very friendly and tastey. Good luck and come back if you have more questions. You might start to enjoy the wine for the wine's sake, not just for the health benefits.

One more thing worth mentioning here. If you are alergic to weed, grass, polin etc.., you may experience headaches from drinking reds. Consult an MD prior to drinking any alchohol if you are meds.

Also, the recommendation for men is from two to three glasses per day. One glass may not be enough.

As for the headache thing, a light red like the ones suggested is unlikely to cause headaches.
