Hi,

I don't pretend to know even the basics about wine so I was so grateful to stumble across this website!

My boyfriends birthday is coming up in January and I'd really like to buy him a nice bottle of wine from the year he was born- 1980. I know he prefers reds and that he really enjoys California wines but, I havent the faintest idea of even where to start. I'm looking for a few suggestions to point me in the right direction if anyone can help.

Thanks!!

Hi Sirenetta and welcome to the board. Unfortunately 1980 wasn't a great year for Calif Cabs. The only ones that are possibly alive are the Grace Family, Heitz "Marthas", Beaulieu Vineyards "Reserve", or Chateau Montelena. The problem is that all will carry a very hefty price-tag (250-350). Call our friend Roberto at Wine Expo in Santa Monica at 800-WINEEXPO and he might have a super Italian from that vintage. Good Luck. WW

Thanks, I'll see about giving them a call. Any good Italians to keep in mind at all?
