French appellations

When a french wine is certified as typical for an appellation, does that mean just that the grapes were grown there and maybe of a certain quality or is it blend specific (and if so is there one specific blend per appellation or a few)

When an appellation is certified on the bottle of French Wine, it means the wine grapes were grown there and the wine was produced there. It also means that certain grapes went into the wine in certain percentages. The blends and percentages can vary as the tightness of the appellation dictates. If the appellation pretains to a certain bottling from a certain chateau, the appellation is very tight. It it applies to a commune or even a whole region, it loosens up.
