The short answer is - NO. There is Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, but no grape called just Cabernet. Sorry.

That is not to say, however, that the label of the wine didn't "just say Cabernet". It might have. Yet the grape is Cabernet Sauvignon.

In order for a wine, here in the US, to have the grape name on the label it has to be 75% of that grape.

It could have been 90% Sauvignon and 10% Franc and they just called it Cabernet.

But again, as KC said, there is no singular Cabernet Grape. Both have a last name.

Cabernet Sauvignon is a hybrid, since it's a natural cross of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. This happened many hundreds of years ago. Cabernet Franc can be traced back about 2000 years to Biturica grape vines brought to Gaul (France) by the Romans. Other varieties, such as Merlot and Malbec, can trace their origins back to the Biturica also. Cabernet Franc was named back about the early 1700's, and Cabernet Sauvignon about the same time. However, there has not been a grape called just Cabernet.
