For a wedding present for wine drinking friends I had the idea to give them three different types of wine. One to open and drink right away, one for them to save for their 25th anniversary and one to save until their 50th. I was wondering what my options might be in wines that would age that long and what kind of price ranges I was looking at. I know very little about wines and am not even sure if it a practical idea or not. Can anyone give me some suggestions?!

Hi Nowark, and welcome to the Wine Board. Let's start long and move short. For fifty years your best red bet would be a Vintage Port ($75-$100), and your best white choice would be a Sauternes ($200-$300). For 25 years look for a Brunello di Montalcino ($50-$100), and for a white a German Beerenauslese or Eiswein ($50-$150 350 ml). For the first one you have a world of choices. See if you can find the wine store your friends shop at, and ask for recommendations there. Otherwise, go to any local store and ask for popular wines in your area in your pricerange.
