what's wine software? software to me comes on cd's. I'm ignorant though, please explain. =)

We keep track of our ten or so cases with a couple of files on the WP. Some of the others around here use more sophisticated software, and will surely chime in.

I have a sophiscated wine tracking system for my 30 bottle wine cooler. It is located right behind me in the office.

I turn around and look to see what I have left. Opps I have 13 empty spaces. Oh well I have a case coming from Roberto. [img]http://wines.com/ubb2/biggrin.gif[/img]

On the serious side I have a program I downloded to my PDA called My Wines (you can get it from palmgear.com). I mostly use it to log wines that I read here that I want to try. But you can keep track of how many you have on hand, and in which bin.

My mind goes blank when I get to the wine shop. When is it WW, that the mind fails? The same thing happen when my wife sends me to the video store.

I use Cellar! by Collectware. Works fairly well, although I have a few complaints after 3-4 years of experience with it. But it's not bad, and I've heard there's a new & improved version available now. I gave about $60 for my version. Other members here use other SW..... recall that Bucko uses Cellar Savant.

I find it most useful for keeping track of sources for particular wines, dates of purchase, prices paid, recommended drinking windows, that sort of thing. And location of a particular bottle, of course, since it could be in any of three locations around this place. But having to boot up the computer to check that sort of thing is a pain. I miss my old cellar book, and have seriously considered reviving it.

Have checked out the Cellar Savant, and downloaded a trial. It is very good, but much more than what we need.

I just use the old fashioned Excel spreadsheet. I list the winery, wine, region, vintage, price, purchase location, and a comments section where I put in TNs, "drinking window," etc. Sometimes, if I've seen it reviewed on here or in a publication, I'll note that in the comments section, too. I put an asteric on ones I have in stock, and if I have multiple bottles, I note how many I have left. When I drink one, I'll remove the asteric or reduce the amount and add the TN. Not the most sophisticated system, granted, but it works for me. It will have to change once my eyes start to go, though, as sometimes the comments section font is veeeeery small. I have a printed copy I keep by the cellar so I'm not standing there like an idiot with the door open (my wife used to jump on me for that). I hand-write my notes on the printed shreadsheet, then periodically update my file on the 'puter.
