I need Help. I'm trying to figure out what kind of wine to pick up for my Girlfriend and I for V-Day. This is my first time buying any kind of wine. All I know is that she loves sweet wines and I needs to go with Dark Chocolate. I saw a suggestion for Bonny Doon's Framboise Raspberry wine but I don't believe that the local College wine store carries that particular wine. Any help would be wonderful!
Thanks,
Doug

Have no idea where you are but you should be able to find a bottle of ruby port.

Is there a particular Brand that I should look for or stay away from? I'm in Athens Ohio. It's just a small little college town so I don't think we'll have anything too expensive. Please feel free to throw out some suggestions, Please.

Still hard to know what is in your stores--look for Offley Ruby Port--inexpensive stuff, good and from one of a few port houses still owned by Portuguese.

If you don't find Foodie's rec, you might consider Buller and Son's Tawny Port (from Australia). Several of us on the board tried it and loved it. (And I thought it went well with chocolate mousse.)

Buller and Son's Tawny Port (from Australia) not bad for an imitation 'Port'.

Hello DCopen,

There is another alternative to Port for VDay. You can buy some inexpensive bubbly (ie: Frexinet Cava) and some Dekuper Raspberry Liquor. The raspberry will sweeten up the bubbly and give it a beautiful red color.

Have fun!
