vintage recommendations?

Hello All,

I have many bottles of this and quite a few bottles of that in my "cellar". Is there somewhere out there that you can put in a vintage year and wine and get a recommendation of when to drink and hold?

I was eyeing a bottle of 94 Ferrari Carano Tresor and not sure if it's still drinkable or past it's prime.

One of the very few things I like about Wine Spectator are/is their vintage charts on their website. They tend to be accurate regarding the quality of the vintage (for a wide range of wine regions)and whether a vintage is ready to drink or hold.

I'm going to contact spectator and see how often they update their vintage charts. Drink/hold can stay there for a long time if not updated reguarly. I wish they put years on it ie: hold through 2006 or something like that rather than just the generic drink/hold.

I did some research yesterday on "when to drink" wine and I came up with this. Thought it was interesting.

The chemical compounds of wine changes with time. Young opulent wines will go through a "dumb" period (when the complex compounds are being formed) and emerge magnificently.

Even the maker of the wine will have difficulty guessing when is the best time to drink the wine. All that is predictable about fine wine is its unpredictabilty.

Ok - so I'm not alone!

Not alone at all. I sometimes descibe it as a negative parabolic curve that the wine travels through during the aging process. It has sometimes been my dumb luck to pop a bottle at the bottom of the curve. Drats!
