Hey Guys How's it goin? My name is Lacey and I'm new to the site. I'm from Sacramento and I just turned 21, so You know what that means? I just started to get into wines and I am interested to learn the do's and dont's. Can't wait to hear the good advice from everyone. Talk to you soon!

Hi Lacey and welcome to the Wine Board. Do taste as many wines as you can, and don't get discouraged.

There are retailers in your neck of the woods who hold regular tastings. Some are free, and if so you may want to a least pick up a bottle afterward.

There is a wealth of information on the board, neatly categorized, as well as on several other forums.

A book which has become a kind of standard for wine drinkers is Andrea Immer (Robinson's) "Great Wine Made Simple." It is available just about anywhere in hardback, paperback, new or used. It is also probably at your public library.

If you are in a large city check with your local wine stores for tastings. Some even offer beginner classes. This way you can learn how to drink wine and what wines you like. It will also give you access to a wide variety of wines without spending a lot of money. Don't be shy letting people know you are new to wine. Wine lovers love to share there knowledge, sometimes too much.

I have been here, in Sacto, for 1 1/2 years and I have yet to see tastings anywhere! I might have just missed them, but with this town being so incredibly conservative, I wouldn't doubt it if they don't allow it.

There are probably also lots of wine clubs in your area. I know that a couple that are near me that are national are Women for Winesense and Wine Brats. They both have websites. There are usually groups geared toward young professionals that are cool to get involved with bc they do lots of fun social activities and you get to meet other people your age that are into wine and get to mingle at the same time.
