I am definately a wine novice.... I love sweet white wines (late harvest riesling or Gwertz). However my boyfriend loves reds so when we dine I have tried to find a red that I might like.

I like a very light taste and sweet. Heavy wines like Merlot are just too powerful for me. I just dont know enough about what a Pinot vs a shiraz, vs a ? all mean.

I know the "tannic" flavor is what I want to steer away from. I really hope to find a red or red blend that would not be over powering to my palette to where i can enjoy more than one glass at a meal.

Can anyone help me with all the red wine lingo and what might be a good choice for me?

For sweeter reds, you could try a Lambrusco first, then move to Beaujolais (try an '05 Beaujolais Villages, if you can find one). After that, you might try a Pinot Noir. Touch back with us and let us know what you liked/didn't like about those, and we could steer you into other directions.

Welcome to the board!
