I have been invited to a Birthday/New Years Eve Dinner at a friend's house. Knowing there will already have champaigne being served, I thought in addition to a gift, it would be good idea to also give a nice bottle of wine to the Birthday girl. Not sure what she may like, can anyone recommend a nice gift-giving wine for a late-20s New Yorker?

Hate to see this request just sitting here when time is short. For $10.00 go with Louis Jadot, Macon Villages Jadot, Chardonnay, 1997. For $20.00 Louis Jadot, Pouilly Fuisse, 1997 - 98. No I don't own stock in Jadot, but these are avialable in any New York liquor store, and safe as sound.
