I really have no clue about wine and was wondering what would be a good wine to have with spaggettii ? Its nothing really fancy and as Ive got a large school bill to pay for my budget is farily limited, but Id still like something that tastes good. Any recomendations ?

Hi leex, and welcome. I would recommend starting out simple and inexpensively from the sound of things. But first, you need to find out what kind of wine you like. I would recommend trying some inexpensive "Chianti's" for starters.... they can be had for around/ under $10. They are easily found just about anywhere. One of my fav's is called Montecello, and you can pick up a magnum (double bottle) for around $13 if you have a friend or two to share it with. You could also look for a red "Rosso" table wine from Italy in the same price range, but you might have to seach a little. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi Leex, and welcome to the Wine Board. We hate to assume things, but it is important here. That assumption is that you will have tomato sauce on the spaghetti. In that case you want a red wine with high acidity (to cut through the tomatoes). Since it is an Italian dish, it would be wise to serve it with an Italian wine. Keeping your budget in mind, your best bet would be a Salice Salentino if you can find one. Next best would be a Barbera d'Asti. In the case of Italian Barbera, the lightest versions are also the least expensive. Another fine choice would be a Chianti. For value, you want what we would call a plain ole Chianti. If the words Classico or Riserva are included on the label the price will go up.

If you are putting a white sauce on your pasta, come back for more advice, although the reds would work in a pinch.

I like to serve Valpolicella with my spagetti (red sauce). Zenato is a good and readily available brand. If you can find it, Corte Sant'Alda is excellent. Both of these are between $8-$12. Salice Salentino, like the other folks suggested, is also good.

I tend to avoid Chianti and Barbera with spaghetti. Too acidic with the tomatoes. If all you can find is chianti, then it will work alright.
