Porto - How long will last...

How long will Port last after it is open? Some said about three month. I was under the impression that it may long even longer.

if it's your average tawny, then it could last forever. This includes your 10,20....50 year bottlings. A ruby or unaged vintage port will last several months. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on an aged vintage port (35+ years) or an aged colheita (vintage dated tawny style port) you should plan on consuming the bottle on the same evening that it's opened.

Heredias Ruby Port special reserve. I should have pick up a Tawny instead, but I wanted to try this one.

well, a tawny might last slightly longer, but a ruby is worth trying. as far as taste profiles go, they are very different animals and both are worth a try. a ruby is a vintage styled port. that means the nose and tastes are dominated by the fruit. they tend to be the "inky" looking ports that are fruit driven. The tawnys have contributions in the profile from the fruit, but it is tempered by the time it spends in oak. they tend to be a rich amber color and have a nuttiness on the nose and pallet. tey the ruby, then try a tawny.
