I have really become a fan of Chardonnay lately (since a recent trip to Napa Valley) and would like suggestions for Chardonnay's in the 20.00 to 30.00 per bottle range.

The ones I really enjoy have a rich oak taste along with a lot of buttery/vanilla characteristics. I was told this is a result of malolactic fermentation.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks - Chris

Uh Oh! You may have a tough time with that request here, Chris. Take a look down below at the "Rants & Raves" category, which has a large thread on the evils of oak. I'm sure you'll get a few good answers, but ...

Hey there Chris, welcome to the board. Having been a resident of Denver for 20 years, you have some very intelligent wine mavens in two great wine (liquor) stores in your back-yard. Applejack and Argonaut both have extremely knowledgeable staffs that can give you your initial guidance in the wine passageway. After you`ve exhausted their ideas and they seem to be giving you the same ole` mundane answers, VOILA!, post here. winoweenie

The best "Chardonnay" made in California for your tastes is probably the Chalone Pinot Blanc (which is NOT Chard but has all those flavors you are looking for in spades) with McIllroy and White Rock Chards right behind (although more expensive).

But, PLEASE, try a wide range of styles and varieties with a good selection of diffent foods to see what's really out there before spending that kind of money on biggus buckus Chards.

Roberto
