Moore Brothers

Moore Brothers is well known in Philadelphia and South Jersey as a boutique wine store. They keep the store and storage area at 56 degrees (really), they select good wines at reasonable prices, and their staff is the best I have ever encountered.

I just got a note that they opened a store in New York at 33 East 20th. This is the website:

I have no affiliation with them, I have just enjoyed being a customer for years. Oops, good thing this is not my real name, or the PA wine police would be getting an arrest warrant upon reading this.

I could talk at length about what's wrong with buying wine in Philly - wherever you consume it. Buying wine in Jersey and consuming it there, of course, is the right thing to do. That defense will hold as long as it takes them to search my house - unless they shoot me first, I don't know. The state is very married to its liquor laws.

Ah I misunderstood that.....

.....It could be worse, you could live in MA.........or when I lived in Canada.... I could tell you a story or two. A person I worked with brought back a couple of cases of wine and did not declare it and the passport got stamped with the word "Smuggler".

Nothing else beyond that....nothing to say that it was not something illegal. I thought that it was pretty harsh.

Yes, very harsh. I have brought more than a case at a time into the US on a few occasions, nobody has ever said anything - and I declare everything.

Just don't try to mail duck pate' from Alsace into USA without a U.S. Department of Agriculture stamp on the tin--but that's another story.
