I was in Chicago on a very blustery day...with no clients to see for a while....so found out where Hart Davis Hart was and decided to walk over to see their retail store. I'd read about them as they have done quite a bit with Auctions.

Walking around Erie and pas LaSalle...i could not find the store....I finally find the address and....it was an office building. I had not realized that it was just a pickup location and a call center. So I went upstairs to ask for the retail center address and was informed that that was it.

I wanted a bottle of a 1990 Comte Amrand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux. They were entirely pleasant to deal with despite my tiny order.

That is where I buy all of my White Burgundys from and ship them into Cali.

It's really sad that I can't get Grand Cru Burgundy's here, at least the ones I want, so I go there.

If your state allows you to get wines online then they are a great resource for rare and obscure wines. I know one of the sales people, Chris K. personally and I also know that every wine they bring in on "consignment" they make sure the wines are stored properly.

Again, they are a great resource! Engineer I wish I knew you were going for I would have sent you into Sams if you have never been. Now THAT is an experience! So much so that each region has their own specialist and they are responsible for all wines, stocking, inventory, etc... It doesn't get any better than that.

" Blustery? " Having our national shows at the Merchandise Mart twice yearly for 25 years I had the pleasure of visiting the windy city EVERY January and July. The idiots who picked those months needed to be nuerted to make sure they Never produced progeny. I've never been as cold as the Jan. trip NOR as hot as some of the July visits. The only redeeming factor was the number of great jazz clubs with people like Billy Holiday, Oscar Peterson, Sarah, Ella, et.al. to while away the free hours. WW

In a previous life I worked for a company that, among other things, made automation equipment for the printing industry. A bit over 30 years ago, I was in Chicago for three weeks one February installing equipment and training the customer. The place was just off West Upper Wacker and my company put me up in the Holiday Inn at the Merchandise Mart. Since it was so close I walked, but it was two trips a day across the bridge over the Chicago River. Probably about the coldest walk I've ever had to make.

If the joints on Wacker were any further apart than 20' your legs woulda' frozen . Stayed at the Executive House since its' inception and even the few blocks to the Mdse Mart were full of pain. W

I will most likely be going back to Chi-town in a few weeks. There was a time when I would be in chicago one every month at least....

WW, you are right, those are two BAD months to visit Chicago. Biting dry cold and hot high humidity...
