We'll be off to visit some good friends in Gig Harbor for a family event in September. While there, we're staying at a B&B (the Green Cape Cod) in Tacoma (Bucko's neck of the woods, I believe). Before we head up there, though, we want to spend about 3 or 4 days doing the Willamette Valley wineries and that's where the question comes up. Does anyone know of any good B&B's in that area? We don't know that area at all, and it was suggested we stay up near the top of the valley the first night and head down and stay near the middle for the other two or three nights. We'd really appreciate any recommendations from people that know the area. Of course, we'd like recs on which wineries are definite musts to visit. Good restaurants, too.

I appreciate the help,
Bob

Hmmm, Not sure of where to recommend. I can help you on finding some though. Go to www.qwestdex.com and put in McMinnville or Dundee, OR for cities. Put bed and breakfast in the category and you will get a list of options. Either place will put you about 5 to 30 minutes from most of the north Will-a-metty wineries.

I live about 15 minutes from Dundee.

As far as some good wineries up in this area to go to: Chateau Benoit, Torii Mor, Erath, Argyle is alright. I will post some more suggestions as I visit them on my days off. Let me know if you need some help finding any info about this end of the world. Since I live here, I will do what I can.

The Willamette Valley is not that big. A central location should suffice for the entire visit.

The area does not take advantage of the potential tourist trade IMHO. Top-notch restaurants are just not found. Same for B&Bs. While you have a pletora of these in Napa and Sonoma, the Willamette Valley is a dry hole.

That said, the best B&B that we have stayed at in the area is the Springbrook Hazelnut Farm in Newberg, (800) 793-8528. Average.

The two best restaurants we have ate at are Red Hills in Dundee and Nick's Italian Cafe in McMinnville. Average.

If you get a chance to drop by Bucko's B&B, we'll treat you to a decent meal and wine.
