Anybody ever done any touring in this region? I'll be in Toulouse and Perpignan next week and am already planning to see Collioure and possibly Banyuls.

Other recommendations?

Coteaux de Languedoc region, but I haven't the exact place name. You can probably find out over there; they have a great reputation. I love their wines.

OK, I'll look into that. I'm going to mainly be in Roussillon rather than Languedoc but it's not far ... I'll definitely check Paul Mas out if I can.

Didn't get to that area. Have you been to Carcasonne? It's well worth a visit before you leave France.

KC, thanks for the web site. I had looked up the Paul Mas label in a couple of books I have here and there were a whole bunch of 'Mas's but none were specifically Paul Mas. There was a Mas Amiel, which is near Perpignan.

Just got back. It was a very cool trip, I learned a bunch about Languedoc and Roussillon wines, as well as the Southwest. I went tasting in Gaillac and Banyuls, and found great caves de vins in Collioure and Montpellier. I will report on the wines I picked up as I drink them over the next few weeks, but for the moment I will post on a few that I already tried while I was down there ...

No luck on Paul Mas, sorry Foodie. The chateau is in Pezenas, which isn't reachable by train. I did ask the salesman in Montpellier about the domaine (Chateau Conas), and he said it's good, approachable stuff and is apparently the, or one of the, oldest producers in France. Also, it's now owned by the same company that owns the chain of Nicolas wine stores.

WOW, you're right, Carcassonne was amazing! As were Foix, Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Toulouse, Collioure, etc.

Green is my color when someone can get two weeks for every six--with me it ain't even the other way around...I am going to VinItaly in April (if the war isn't happening, which I guess it is). But that trip is business!
