Decanter Recommendations?

I've finally realized I need to get a Decanter, but I'm not sure how to proceed. The price ranges are staggering, and in reality I wonder if that old glass "Wine Carafe" I own would do the job just fine? The other option seems to be the "broad base, thin neck" style, but of course that’s where the price ranges come into play. So I guess I’m asking what you all use, are you happy with it, and what did it cost?

Thanks Much!

When I use one (which isn't often enough), it's usually a wide-mouth glass flower vase. The only real decanters we own are antique Waterford ship's decanters, too clumsy to use at the table. The vase works just fine.

Triple, seek out one of the two, Tuesday Morning stores in your area...they have a great selection of CHEAP decanters and wine glasses.

I haven't been to one yet but I need a decanter also. (Lauren Bacall does ads for Tuesday Morning on tv).

I stopped by Tuesday Morning, and they didn't have anything. It seems like the kind of store where the stock would vary widely from store to store.

But I found this one at Pottery Barn for $29. seems like maybe a good deal? You should be able to cut and paste the link below to take a look.

That does look like a possibility Triple H. Or I may wait until my next trip to Raleigh and check a store or two there. I also get a catalog of wine accessories (I think from subscribing to "Wine Spectator") and they have some attractive decanters. I kind of like the duck shape although that may not be the most practical.

Triple, if you don't mind shopping online, try out wineenthusiast.com. Definitely a wide variety of decanters, very reasonably priced, to Reidel, and up. I believe the one I got from them was $30-$40 and works just great.
