Does anyone know of a place where wine corks (preferably used and of different wineries) can be purchased?

We have some 4"x4" wood posts in our cellar that go from floor to ceiling (approx 7.5' high). We've been trying to figure out what to do with them from an aesthetic standpoint. My wife has come up with the idea of facing them in "wine corks". I think it would look pretty cool but would take a ton of corks. Anybody know where corks can be purchased?

Have no idea about where exactly you could find them but as a suggestion you might talk to the bartenders at a couple of your favorite restaurants in the peninsula and see if they might save them for you. Can assure you that it does look quite cool as I've done the door and facing to my wine cellar with wood end panels of my favorite wines and separated them with corks. You can also glue a bunch of them to a sturdy piece of plywood as a backdrop for a dartboard. It works great, looks cool, and protects your wall.

I've been saving corks for years with the idea that I would create a wall or some such thing with them...never get around to doing it, but there are so many corks they just about need their own room.

I boxed up a bunch of 'em about a year ago and sent 'em to a guy who said he wanted 'em. Can't remember who it was, or where I stashed his address, or would have cleaned out the accumulation again by now. Their plastic garbage bag is already so full it won't fit in a full-case bin in the cellar and is taking up space on the floor. Whinewhine. But a room-size collection? Yeow, that's a lot of cork!

...you should see the size of the dining table those things eat offa...the last time I tried to get into the room they wrestled me to the floor to take the bottle of wine out of my hand and steal the cork from me.

I have a friend who glued them end on to the inside of his wine cellar door. His theory was that, besides making for an interesting look, it provided some insulation. It took over 10,000 corks and all of us contributed, as well as a lot from several wine shops in the area from their weekly tastings.

They do make for insulation--when they are in the bottle they certainly keep us out!!!

I forgot to mention the cork's power of telepathy--the crew heard me typing my last message and they started banging on the door to their room--of course, the noise was muted; after all, they are corks...
