Hello,

Looking for a wine called Spanada? From what I understand they went out of business 15 years ago. Hoping to give a case or two to my parents for their anniversary. If it is no longer available is there something close? They used to enjoy this wine at one of the local restaurants many years ago.

Thanks, Jesse

Jesse, I don't think that Spanada was, strictly speaking, wine but actually some sort of pre-fab Sangria type thing with added flavors. It is definately out of the market but will always be remembered as the inspiration for that great Eric Burdon and War song "Spill the Wine (Get that Girl!)" which was written in the aftermath of spilling a gallon jug of it into the mixing board at Sunset Studios......

If what your folks like is a soft and fruity red, I would suggest the Pesenti Red Velvet from Templeton California. Compared to the Spanada it is kind of expensive ($5.99 a bottle!) but it is a real crowd pleaser. We have sold over 200 cases in three weeks.

Roberto,
Where do you come up with all your "behind-the-scenes" music stories? Were you doing backup guitar for War?

I watch "Behind the Music" on VH1 religiously plus half our customers are in the record business (talked to both Mike Stoller and the Big Cheese of WEA just today).

I think that Hawaii has eased up on shipping laws. Anyway, ask my old friend Lyle Fujioka for it. He owns a wine shop in Honolulu, Fujioka's Wine Merchants. Tell him the red-necked Okie sent you.
