Boutari Santorini

1999 Boutari Santorini from the lovely Greek Island by the same name. It is made from the assyrtiko grape. A full bodied white at 13%. Extremely floral on the nose with the same sensation upfront. An even nicer bouquet and the afore mentioned heft across the palate, and very nice, lingering finish. We thought carefully and married it up with a heavily garliced bay scallop scampi with OO, of course. A very strong parsley from the garden jazzed it up even more. Served over toasted English muffins, with spinach. Wonderful! Would also serve, well chilled, as an aperitif. Incidentally, there was not even a hint of wood. Available from Pops and even the Blue Hill Wineshop here in Maine for around $12.00. Could be our summertime SW for next summer.

I've had the '98 and was similarly impressed. Went to Santorini two years ago and the Boutari whites were pretty solid, and inexpensive to boot.
