From Pierce Ranch in the San Antonio Valley, this product of the Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard in CA was included in the spring shipment. The grape is from Portugal, the Douro and Dao regions. Deep red in the glass, sour cherries on the nose, promising complexity; delivered on the palate with dark red fruit and an underlayer I can't pin down, unusual but very nice; moderate finish. With sauteed sausage, shallots, 'shrooms and wild rice. 13% alc/vol and $20.40 wine club price. A steal.

Hotwine,

Touriga Nacional is considered a top red grape in Portugal. It's also a mainstay to produce Port.

Good stuff.

Thanks Foodie, good stuff indeed.

I seem to recall encountering Touriga in a blend at some point, but never before as a single variety. This one's a winner. May need to order a few for the cellar.

Haven't opened one yet. Jeff is doing some kick-patootie things at SCMV. Gonna get to them dudes shortly. WW

Thanks for the notes... I'm on their 1 of each program, so I'd love any notes on these things, including drinking windows...

Just got on Sean Thackrey's list, too! Really excited. It's SCMV, Easton/TR, Harvest Moon, and Thackrey. I may need to drop Easton for a while, but as much as I love their stuff, I really just like these lists to get wines that are unusual/hard to get otherwise, so the other 3 wineries fit the bill much more... Though Easton's Rox2 really looks unusual. Anyone try that?
