2004 Loimer Lois Gruner Veltliner (Austria)

We've had some whites lately, mostly because Anne has been cooking her way through a new book on risotto, and most recipes call for a dry white. This one has a pale straw color with a greenish tint. Somewhat floral nose with lemon-lime notes, which also show through in the flavors. Light in body, lively finish. Very crisp and refreshing and sort of like a Sauvignon Blanc, but without the sharp bite you sometimes get with SB. This would be a versatile food wine, pairing with any number of dishes that would call for an unoaked white. Alc. 11%. Paid about $10 for it. I'm not about to turn out my cellar and replace all the reds with whites, but it'll make me try more Gruner Veltliners.

I like the Lois Gruener, too...
I poured some at a tasting at my store a few weeks ago... it got some really polarized reactions.
i get a slightly salty noted on it, as well as the lime you mentioned.

another pretty inexpensive one i like it Hirsch (it has a deer sticking it's tongue out on the label).
