During my college days, I made a very dear friend who attended school with me for a semester before he got too homesick and returned to Georgia. His father made wine. Unfortunately, I have not been able to reach him. He wasn't here long enough to know english enough to work as a translator. His wife was just finishing Med school but they didn't have the money to bribe a hospital so she could get a good job. I haven't heard from him in a few years. Georgia is a very beautiful country with a rich and unique history.

I have read that it could be the next rising star of the wine world. It has a long history, good conditions and the passion. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the technology. And even worse, governmental conditions (like those in the rest of the Caucus area) are deteriorating. I was hoping Georgia would escape the fate of its neighbors and stabilize.

Once, I found a website that imported and direct shipped Georgian and other Russian area wines. It is no longer in existance. I did find some importers that are importing into the US, but you may not be in their sphere of influence.

I wish you luck finding some. If more people find Georgian wine, maybe it will get some badly needed money into the country and help out good people like my friend and his family. I really do miss him.
