live in ct, want to purchase alter wine, same as used in my church. named "onedah or oneda, made in ny state. cannot find it here. any sources and advice welcome. thnx.

For the altar, why can't you use any wine you choose? Is there some sort of rule on the make up of the wine? I remember when I was a young Catholic I tasted the local church altar wine--good thing I did not use that as a benchmark for what wine really is....

There are no longer any hard requirements for altar wine except (believe it or not) that it contain alcohol. Drinking it is optional for the congregation. The quality just took a quantum leap upwards at our church. A couple from Charlotte, NC built and moved into a home to retire in across the street from the church. They make fairly decent wine from juice, and donate to the church all we need. What they donate is an off dry syrah blended 50/50 with a sauvignon blanc. This makes a nice "compromise" wine that everbody loves. Many more are opting for wine these days.

I believe the producer you are looking for is Eagle Crest Vineyards, 7107 Vineyard Road, Conesus, NY 14435 tel--716-346-2321.

The winery has a long history (used be called the Barry Wine Co and at one time was owned by the Carbari family). Eagle Crest does produce sacramental wines and the one I believe you are looking for is named O-Neh-Da.
