2001 Dr. Konstantin Frank, Finger Lakes, Cabernet Franc ($15.96 at winery with 20% discount). Alcohol 12%. Gives you black cherries on the nose and upfront. Plums and more black fruit along with the spice, dirt, and a hint of tobacco cross the palate with soft tannins, restrained oak, and a long, pleasant finish. Matched with smoked baby back ribs in Carolina Red Sauce, and salad in blue cheese dressing (even had one of our rare Yellow Pear tomatoes in it). All, very, very nice! Great wine and great food.

IK- Sounds wonderful! Believe it or not this is one of the last bottles from NY I haven't opened yet. (Ordering more from glenora very soon.)

Off the subject- I just have to know- how do you plan your dinners??? Every post has a different menu, (few repeats), and everything sounds scruptious!! I'm jealous. If only I could cook and eat like that every night! (My other hobby/passion outside of wine, is cooking/food!)

Wish I could say we have a super sophisticated system but we don't. During the summer two things drive dinner decisions; possibility of grilling and smoking, and reduce wine inventory due to the fact we don't order shipments when it's hot. The second factor makes us sometimes have to plan a meal around a wine, which is the opposite from what we like to do.

Another unusual factor is at play now. In a couple of weeks we are taking shipment on a spring lamb we had ordered, and has grown into a nice size beast. Therefore we are making dinner decisions based on what is in the freezer, because we have to make room.

There is a lot of beef in the freezer, and a lot of Cab and Cab blends in the basement, so stand by for a lot of samo samo.

'02 ($18 Blue Hill Wine Shop). Alcohol level 12%. Dr F's wines invaded Maine just before we left (have also seen them here in NH as well). Anyhoo we bought this one and brought it with us. This is very similar to the '01 with a little more redish fruit if anything. The three of us red wine drinkers enjoyed it tonight with grilled skirt steak Teriyaki, boiled taters, and salad. All very nice.
