We're posting notes on Gamay wines this month on another forum. I opened this Fleurie, one of the Beaujolais Cru designations. 13% alcohol. Pretty red-violet color but looking rather thin and watery. Nose not as flowery as I expect from Fleurie. It may be pushing its envelope as far as age, unlike the 2000 G. Descombes Morgon V.V. reported on below in this thread which was riding high six years after harvest.
A little raspberry puree in the flavor and a little earth. Harder to pin down than most Beaujolais.
I didn't plan a meal around the wine but was in the mood for tacos. I had this with soft shell tacos and a tossed salad.
A nice wine even though beyond its youthful freshness.
Gamay can be a refreshing summer wine.
