2003 Chateau d'Aqueria Tavel. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Clairette this almost could stand with the big guys. Deep clean ruby with loads of spices, fruits, and acidity that went extremely well with the smokiness in the ribs. Somewhat lighter and more elegant was the 2003 Chateau Marouine Cote De Province. Salmon color seemed more anemic next to the Tavel but strawberry-flambe tinged with bannana custard made this also very enjoyable with the ribs. After dinner I opened a 2001 Tandem to wash away the rems of those strange flavors. WW
