2001 Michel Redde Sancerre Les Tuilieres

2001 Michel Redde, Sancerre, Les Tuilieres (Around $15 Blue Hill Wine Shop). Available now on the net for $20. Alcohol level the formally ubiquitous 12.5%. Bought this two years ago after good ole Bucko said that the Loire Whites could take some age. Popped it tonight to go with a new recipe we came up with some help from the late James Beard. It was for Scallops Mornay.

The wine had a golden yellow hue. It still gave a great bouquet on the nose, and a heap of very ripe fuit on the tongue. Very crisp acidity in a morphed compexity crossed the palate; and the finish really lingered for quite a while. True love, not a big fan of many whites, loved it. So did moi.

It matched perfectly with the scallops and the spinach that we scopped some of sauce over.

'02 Domaine Girard, La Garenne, Sancerre ($16.99 Chambers Street). Alcohol level 13%. The '03 is available from them at $17.99. Bought this two years ago, and hoped that it would be ready today. We matched it with the same Scallops Morney, and all went spledidly together.

It probably should have been held for another year as it seemed halfway up from the dumb stage. It was still very nice but the acid was still somewhat dominent. I think it would have been calmed down in another year. Hurt true love's throat going down (the kiss of death). She did have two glasses though.

It showed great fruit in transition. Very crisp and quite complex across the palate, and the finish did linger.

I realize that this is a mixed review, but on balance I liked it, and it went well with dinner.

Nice note, IK. I haven't been able to find any decent Sancerre in this area for some time. Come to think of it, had to special order the last, the Rossignole. Blame the heathen distribs in this area.
