I, as I believe a number of other folks here, frequently go to the eBob forums. I lurk and never post on the Wineboard, though I do infrequently post on the Foodboard. Well. now it seems (as of 4/27) you have to be a paid subscriber to www.erobertparker.com or the Wine Advocate to access those boards. That's similar to what the Wine Spectator did a few years back. Anyway, I think this is a complete crock!!! How do these people have such arrogance to think they're so superior that we lowly peons must part with our hard earned wages in order to be able to access their lofty, and oftentimes erroneous, drivel??? Well, that's my rant for the week. Have a great day, folks.

I sometimes lurked and sometimes posted there too but in a way I'm grateful that they have cut us off. As Winoweenie has stated on more than one occasion, there are lots of snobs and know-it-alls and rude characters on that board. (Not that all the snobs and rude characters are Robert Parker subscribers--many may have been along for the free ride as I was.) As David Bueker (posts on WLDG) says, it's RP's board and he can do as he pleases. People who posted tasting notes and no longer have access to those notes are pissed.

For practically as long as he has been around, I've avoided Robert Parker and anything he touches or comes near.

I visited once as a lurker, found I had no interest and left. Don't figure I've missed anything.

As far as paying to access his site: I quit visiting the Speculator's site when they made that subscription-only. Suspect RP will see a drastic drop in traffic.... and maybe that's one of his goals, to cull the rolls of visitors. To each his own.

Sort of like culling the herd, it appears.

Life is much easier when you believe you are on top and you make sure that no one can challenge that notion.

Well guys, this is why we have a kick-ass WineBoard! You don't have to pay...you just gotta follow a set of basic rules!

Maskes me livid too there ole' KC! Jes as I was gettin' ready to spring for a look-see freebie. Yeah verily thwere PW you've managed to keep the damage at a minimum since acquiring this noble group. Froze me fat-patootie off in San Diego this week. Like it topped at 60 and in the low 50s at nite and all I had with me was shorts. WW
