Some diabolical perdon stuck my Ladies of Jazz album in a place uninhabited. Accidentally found this incredible 3 CD set yesterday. Has Ella, Carmen McRae, and Sarah Vaughan on their respective CD. ALL 3 are tremendous but I'd forgotten just how good Satah was on this album.IMHO the greatest group she ever recorded. Wish I could remember where I got it or even the year. The CDs are titled as follows; Ella Fitzgerald with the Tommy Flanagan Band, Sarah Vaughan-Embraceable You, and Carmen McRae-Velvet Soul. A 61 Lafite for the heart, soul, and ears. Sarah's voice was satin, honey, rumbles of melifluous tones that makes me think life is worth forgetting about--best to just lie back with the headphones on; I gave her 99/99--only God gets 100!

Heard Sarah once in Detroit along with Thelonius Monk and others. Concert had a delayed start because foggy weather caused planes to divert. One performer bused in from Toledo and one didn't make it at all.

I'm a real Etta James fan--not introduced to her recordings until about three years ago. What's your opinion of Etta?

We are trying to get a label approved for a big, full bodied, funky to the bone Puglian Red with the name Big Leg Red, a vinous tribute to Etta James...

I saw her at the fancy showroom in the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood one night and the crowd turned around in the middle of "Feel like breakin up somebody's home" to ogle range fed actress Jasmine Guy and entourage at the door. With out missing a beat Etta quiped, "Girl, when I get done with your man he won't want your skinny ass... cause I feel like breakin up somebody's home!"

She is also the only WOMAN who could get away with doing a Muddy Waters tribute show.

Roberto
