Good Morning All,

I'm not really sure where to put this so I figured this would do.

Last Saturday I read a book! It's the first time in a long time that I devoted an entire day to reading.

The Book? Wine & War - The French, The Nazi's & The Battle for France's Greatest Treasure.

It was really good. It is true stories from the vineyard owners of WWII and the lenghts they went to not only to survive, but to keep their wine and land.

Many of the names you will recognize (Maurice Druhin, Tattinger, etc..).

I bought it used on Amazon.com and I'm sure you might be able to find a copy in a local bookstore.

It is definately worth your time.

Read it, and also thought it was good. I got two copies as gifts, so I'll let you have one when you stop by, IK.

I read it and it incredibly interesting. I like the history of the WWII and this is a most read for both WWII historians and Wine lovers.

I think made me understand better how important wine is to France.

Great book, seems like a no brainer for a movie in the aftermath of Sideways.

Two things struck me:

The Nazis march into Paris in the spring of 1940 and the restaurants are serving Burgundies from the teens and Bordeaux from the last century! Talk about some "whiskers" on them. Wouldn't that be wondrous in todays restaurant business?

The famous Vouvray producer Huet going on about how "they made us put kerosene in the barrels to ensure that the wine would be distilled into tank fuel. Wine you can replace but some of those barrels were over 50 years old and everyone knows that the older the barrels the better the wine!" And he is talking about WHITE wine.
