In the special edition of Wine & Spirits Magazine currently on the newstands entitled: Guide To Understanding Wine (The Insider's Guide To Value), that I have touted on a couple of recent postings, is a page listing sixteen retailers across the country that they name as retailers for value. There are some familiar names on this short list. Of course Pops is there. Also Garnet, Crossroads, and Best Cellars in The Apple, Esquin in Seattle, and K&L in San Francisco. Oh yes, they do mention some joint on Santa Monica Blvd. "These guys specialize in the unusual and the off-track. Plenty of Italian wines and Champagne, all at great prices. Hey, IK, I hadn't heard about that. We are still trying to deal with the fall out of being featured in Japananese travel magazine Voga, which tells everyone exactly what we do but still we get a hundred Japanese a month wondering where we are hiding the Opus One, Johnny Walker Blue and Calera Jenson Pinot Noir......

I purchased the special issue on value in wines at Barnes & Noble and I'm reading my way through it. Congratulations on the citation, Roberto. Not many shops were singled out for recognition. There really does seem to be a consensus that southern France and parts of Italy have good value wines and also New Zealand. It is expanding my horizons since my experience previously was with better known wine regions in Germany, France, Italy, and California.
