I'm a big Packers fan, and ready to see what Aaron Rodgers can do. However, I sure enjoy seeing Favre play, and have not lost any respect for him. Joe Posnaski, one of the few good sports-writers out there, articulates my feelings on the matter way better than I could:

I was hoping that the organization would have been smarter about this and realize what the end game would have been. For a player like Brett, they should've accomodated him as otherwise, it would have ended up exactly as it did. I understand that trading him to the Vikings would be within the same division but if earlier reached, could've been more choices and maybe would've gotten something nice in return. Either way, its been not nice to watch.

Well, it appears I spoke too soon. The Packers seem to be doing everything in their power to make sure that they open the year with an injury-prone QB with no career starts or wins, rather than a HOF player coming off a Pro Bowl year. It has reached truly absurd levels of ridiculousness.

It appears that Favre will be wearing NY Jets green this fall. I just hope the Carolina Panthers and SF 49ers do better than in recent years.

I'll always root for my Packers, but I'm just miserable about this whole situation. I can't believe I'm going to have to watch games between teams like the Jets and the Bills just to get to watch Favre play. Ugh. What a nightmare. Never in my life have I seen a team reach the conference championship game, then dump their Pro Bowl QB in the next off-season. Sure, Favre waffled on retirement, but that happens all the time. When Jordan told the Bulls, "I'm back," the Bulls didn't answer, "We've moved on." Training camp hadn't even started, so it's not like he missed anything important. If it wasn't for some substantial egos in the front office, Favre would still be a Packer.

Well, I suppose I now get to root for two teams this fall instead of only one, which is good, as I'll have the time -- Anne soon leaves for a trial in Mississippi that'll last about a month, so I'll be bored silly.

Before rooting for the Jets you might wait and see who their starting QB is.

Then be sure to tune into the Jet/Patriot games!

I have a feeling that if it comes to a coice between Pennington and Favre for starter, then Favre has to start.

This should have been the resolution a long time ago adn the Packers should have been a bit more smooth about this. As for Brett, two weeks of strangeness in no way changes my thoughts of him as a classy individual. I agree with DA, Athletes change their minds and they have the right to. The team then needs to respond, especially for people like Brett who have been so loyal.

As for me, the trade is one of two solutions. The other solution would have been that he started again for the Packers....that would have been my choice.... too bad I don't get to choose....

Retirement from any business dramatically changes things. Picture anyone of us on this board retiring and after several weeks saying, "Sorry, I want to come back." In most cases it's very difficult or not possible. It effects many aspects of the business and other people so does he have the right to change his mind, of course, but he shouldn't be surprised if the answer is no.

Similarly, it felt odd to see Joe Montana in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform, although I have some affection for Kansas City so would rather have seen him there than say with the Dallas Cowboys. It just seemed like he should have retired from the 49ers, not the Chiefs.
